Classic Green Smoothie

Mise en place layout — set up everything before you blend.

Zone 1 — Freeze Ahead Do the night before (or use store-bought frozen)

1 medium banana

Peeled, sliced into coins, frozen solid

Frozen banana is what makes the smoothie thick and creamy without ice dilution

Zone 2 — Liquid Base Goes in the blender first

1 cup almond milk

Measured, at room temp

½ tbsp lemon juice

Freshly squeezed or bottled

Brightens the green flavor, prevents browning

Zone 3 — Blender Bowl Chop bowl — all going into the blender together

2 cups baby spinach

Packed, stems included

½ green apple

Cored, rough-chopped

½ inch fresh ginger

Peeled, roughly sliced

1 Pull all three to your station. Core and rough-chop the apple, peel and slice the ginger, drop each into a bowl as you go. Knife stays in hand the whole time.
2 Add spinach last — no knife needed, just pack it on top.
Zone 4 — Toppings Add at serving — texture-sensitive

2 tbsp granola

Ready to sprinkle

Added last so it stays crunchy — dissolves fast once blended in

1 tsp chia seeds

As-is

On top for visual texture; absorbs liquid quickly so serve immediately

3 fresh banana slices

Cut just before serving

Cut last to prevent browning

Zone 5 — Tools
High-speed blender Measuring cup (1 cup) Tablespoon measure Cutting board Chef's knife Peeler (for ginger) Tall glass or jar
Assembly order Add liquids to blender → Add blender bowl produce → Add frozen banana last → Blend 45–60s until smooth → Pour into glass → Add toppings & serve immediately

Frozen banana goes in last so it doesn't jam the blades before the liquid loosens things up. Liquids first is the standard blender order — it protects the motor and ensures a vortex forms immediately. Toppings are staged separately because granola turns to mush in under 60 seconds once it contacts the smoothie.
